Allright Family Band, formed in 1976 out of Venice & Malibu, California, came to Maui in 1977, & released their “Music Is Love, Maui” album in 1980 (Tracks 1-8). The band performed with many mainland and Maui musicians, including the great superstar Bob Marley.

After many years in the music business, Bill “Buck” Rodgers started the band, still sings lead, still plays keys & trombone, and wrote the first 8 songs in collaboration with Bruce Bandura, lead guitarist & vocalist, David Gage on bass, Kimon Kotos on drums, Donnie Numark on harmonica, and Alan Miranda on bass. Country rock song “Cadillac” (Track 5) was the favorite airplayed tune.

 

The Allright Family Band, under the management of the late great Robert “Bumps” Blackwell, known for discovering Jimi Hendrix, & Little Richard, decided to stay on beautiful Maui where they recorded the album in George Benson's studio in Lahaina.

 

Sky Saxon from the "Seeds" co-wrote and sang (Track 4) the fantastic rock song Starry Ride, Steve Wasserman on sax is from "The Doobie Brothers", Andy Sexton on Sax is from “Simplisity” on (Track 11) Starry Ride Tribute, the young Hawaiian Henry Kapono now a superstar, played guitar and sang on "Help Yourself", Slick Aquilar, guitarist from “Jefferson Starship” did a cool solo on "Know That I Love You", Pete Hernandez (father of Bruno Mars) kept the beat on congas, and beautiful lady singers were Naomi Summers, Stephanie Moore Rodgers, and Marilyn Rodgers.

 

In 2006 Rodgers' two sons became “Bucks Boys” & later were “Breath of Fire” Band. Jai Rodgers and Daniel Rodgers wrote (Bonus Track 12) "Simmer Down", and now Jai writes & performs as “Jai & the Tones" Band.  Daniel Rodgers was on (Bonus Track 13) "Another Day" with superstar performers BET (Big Every Time) adding a rap to  "Sound So".

 

Bill “Buck Rodgers” now has a weekly TV Series called “Star Tracks” on Channel 53, right after lunch at 12:30 on Olelo on Tuesdays,  highlighting musicians on the islands. He has his “Buck Rodgers Star Tracks” shows on YouTube, as well.
